About Highroads Tasting Room

Lynda Ann and I met at the Wild Goose Festival - progressive Christian music, arts, and culture festival - at the time the festival was held along the French Broad River in Hot Springs, North Carolina. It was a warm Thursday afternoon around 5:30 p.m. on July 11, 2019.
I was the volunteer lead for the hospitality/green room tent for the musicians and speakers on the main stage. Someone told me my first volunteer had already arrived but on the opposite side of the stage to the equipment tent. I hurried around the front of the stage toward the large blue and white striped tent. I came around the corner, pushed through the tent flaps, and looked up. One glance and she took my breath away. Lynda Ann, as I would soon find out her name, was already at work. I was not ready for this. And, I'm still not quite ready when she walks into the room! I still lose my breath a little and wonder how in the world I ended up with a girl like her.

Fast forward to November 2023. We were walking down Main Street in Clayton, and noted Barbara and Jabe's old wine ship was still closed. COVID was the reason, and so Barbara went back to teaching and Jabe jumped full time into wine- and mead-making. Fortunately, for us, they kept the lease. We texted and then talked and then met together over the holiday and paid a couple more visits. One thing led to another, and by the middle of February we asked ourselves, "Why are we waiting?"
So we quit our jobs March 1, moved March 8, and opened up March 16, 2024. We only could do so with the help of good friends in San Antonio and north Georgia. We spent long hours talking to God (sometimes arguing! But we believe God is bigger than us), talking to each other and to talking to many of our close friends and family. Now, we're here on Main St in Clayton Georgia, heartbeat of the mountains along the Southern Highroads Scenic Trail. We wouldn't want to be anywhere else. |
Southern Highroads Scenic Trail
Highroads Tasting Room is named after the Southern Highroads Scenic Trail, a 364-mile drive through the rolling mountains, rushing rivers, and tranquil wilderness. No matter where you come from, you're welcome here: The mountains are calling.
